Holiday season is in full swing. Whatever you celebrate, however you celebrate chances are routines are in flux, schedules are changing and the progress you and your child have been enjoying is slipping. The holidays bring both joy and chaos. We know we can't make it perfect but we still try. We want it to be as special as possible for our families. One question we may forget to ask is how can we make it easier?
The mom of a three year old on the spectrum says " It may be a special occasion for me but for my daughter it's another day. I try and think about what makes her day go well in general and I try and do as much of that as I can. Even though there's extra shopping and cleaning and cooking I try and keep the biggest blocks of her routine in place."
A dad said "If you're flying someplace and it's a new experience for your child contact the TSA and the airlines ahead of time. Sometimes they will let you do a trial run of going through security a few days before your actual trip. We did this last year and it really helped."
